Haul out the holly
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again..
For we need a little Christmas now…
In these bleak mid-winter days, when the news on the national front is clouded with upset and alarm, and indeed, spirits fall…how the old Christmas song rings true. I know I need it, and hasten to presume it for you, too.
For we need a little music
Need a little laughter
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter,
Need a little Christmas now.
So how welcome, welcome this beautiful Advent season, leading to Christmas joy. The sanctuary halls are decked out with angels soaring overhead, the tree full of twinkle lights shining, the advent wreath with candles to be set aglow wel-coming hope, peace, joy and love. The joyful carols and choir singing gladly lift our spirits. What a gift this season is, every year inviting us to gather the light and as the prophet calls, Arise and shine, for your light has come!
We need good news of great joy, and to hear the repeated angelic message to “fear not”. Fear not, for unto us a child is born, and by God’s grace, born in us, again and again – this hope, this compassion, this love with the power to heal and reconcile and level the way ahead. What a gift this season , this glorious music, this great story, all given time and again when we need it most. May we be inspired to “Arise, Shine,” shine the light of hope, peace, joy and love, shine bright to dispel the darkness.
I will be away December 26 – January 2 celebrating the holidays with family. Rev. Dick Roe will be on call at (650) 493-7828. Travelling mercies for all who are making the journey!
May all the blessings of Christmas be yours, now and throughout the New Year!
