Alexandra, an experienced organizer and campaigner, will:

  • Present an overview of the state of play of key national, state, and local electoral contests
  • Explain the structure and function of the alphabet soup of old and new political organizations
  • Describe best practices for volunteering and for being an activist
  • Offer a curated list of reliable organizations to which to give time and/or money

Alexandra Acker-Lyons has been in electoral politics and the non-profit sector for nearly 20 years, working for candidates and campaigns, party committees, and progressive organizations. She is the Founder and President of AL Advising, a philanthropic and non-profit consulting firm. She is the author of the book The Political Ladder: Insider Tips on Getting a Job in Politics, and she has appeared frequently as a political analyst on cable news. She has worked in various capacities for the John Kerry for President Campaign, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY). She lives in Palo Alto, CA with her husband and son.
