If you have been to Church during the last two weeks, you have probably noticed that I set up my bookcases, put up my books, and there are other little signs that I am getting started. This Sunday—the Fall Kickoff Sunday—will be my first since the September 8 vote to call me as your pastor. I am looking forward to seeing you and worshipping with you.
You have been on my mind during the past twenty days because Stelli and I appreciate the heartfelt ways in which members have reached out to us and the ways you have included us. All of this has been very special!
Church Council, the Stewardship Committee, and the Site Team have all been working hard. Holly Kennedy has been a constant and important resource on all kinds of details related to our church life. I’m gradually getting up to speed on administrative matters, but the Church—each of You! —is my priority. While we will do many things as a group—many good things that will support the community, the environment, and other worthwhile social causes—my most important work is to be of help to you.
Getting to share some time with each of you is at the top of my list of things to do. In a relatively short time, I’ll get in touch with each of you and set up a time where we can meet to talk and share stories. But I don’t want you to wait if something is on your mind now. I welcome your calls! And I especially want to know of any pastoral care needs you have.
Remember what Moses said in the Book of Deuteronomy to the people wandering in the desert: the spiritual laws that govern our lives reside in our hearts. In the days and months ahead we will examine what it means to live in a community of care and what it means to share this adventurous journey called life. We have started in the right place!
