Hurray for Summer!

Then followed that beautiful season…Summer!….

Filled with the air of a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Summer is here, hurray! Beckoning us out of routine and into time to savor simple joys, to  venture out by shore or woods , and gather round the heart’s campfire of family and friends. How wonderful this time, making memories, a picnic for the senses, welcome respite for the spirit.

And oh how needed, when news from Washington D.C. raises up anxiety and outrage to overload levels, and issues affecting the most vulnerable press for compassion and justice. That’s why I’m so grateful we’ve chosen to focus on “Building an Ark of Compassion” this summer – to combine our efforts in creative ways to bring hope and help, both by finding ways to act locally with compassion, and by filling an ark with animals to help sustain children and families around the world.

To do something so simple that makes a real difference is a prescription for the dis-heartened and discouraged. A flock of chicks, a sheep or cow can change lives.

Every little bit helps – from spare change filling the “ark’ bank, to rallying around projects to help our neighbors near and far. $5,000.00 to fill an ark is an ambitious goal  – we’ve done it before, and if we all pitch in, we can sure do it again!

Another gift of summer is the invitation to try new things, go places we haven’t gone before, welcome adventure and discovery. We’re going to try something new here on July 30 – a whole service dedicated to just that – service! Worship will be woven into hands-on help as the sanctuary becomes abuzz with compassion inspired projects. Prayer and song and reflection – all featured, our actions an expression of thanksgiving and praise. Let’s give it a try, and see how it flies!

So cheers for this beautiful season – may the freshness of childhood find you, and bring joy, wonder and delight. Traveling mercies for all heading out, and coming home!

Love and peace,

Lindsay
