Our Congregational Psalm

On Sunday, May 7, we re-imagined the 23rd Psalm as a congregation in worship using words and situations from our own lives. This is the result.

God, you are my…
husband, wife, children, nurse, friend, mother, father, brother, nanny, minister, neighbor, grandkids
… I have everything I need.

You make me rest…
at home, in my garden, at a mountain lake, at the ocean, in Yosemite, under a tree, in my backyard.

You lead me beside still waters; you restore my…
child, acceptance, confidence, hopefulness, perseverance, compassion.
You lead me in right paths for your name’s sake.

Even though I walk through…
illness, loss, teaching, conflict, bankruptcy, prejudice, estrangement, health issues, failure, war
… I fear no evil.

for you are with me, your…
shield, love, blanket, self, rain coat, courage, insurance, community
… they comfort me.

You prepare a feast before m in the presence of my…
pride, poverty, self indulgence, judgementalism, falsehoods, bullying

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows with…
friends, honor, family, children, acceptance, good health, music, laughter, sunshine, flowers, color, diversity, and fresh pineapple

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall…
celebrate, listen to music, smile, laugh, dance, clap my hands, cook, sing, sing sing
… in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
