Thursday is always a pretty special day at SSP. We all worked a full day at our sites, getting ever closer to completing our projects. While most of us won’t finish our jobs this week (as these projects take several weeks to complete), we will all leave the next group with a great starting place for their week of work.
Thursday night program usually involves going to a beautiful spot for a time of reflection on the theme for the week. Last night we drove about 20 minutes from our home base to a secluded outlook over Upper Klamath Lake. We spent our program time reflecting on the theme of “God Built Love” and listened as three of the staff members shared some powerful stories from their own lives on how they received love from others in a time of need and how it made all the difference.
We then shared another activity called “God Whispers” where we share with each other something that, if God was speaking directly to us, what would we want to hear whispered in our ear. It sounds simple, but is pretty impactful.
When we got back to the gymnasium, Bradley’s work team lead us in our evening devotion. Continuing on the theme of God Built Love they took the song “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars and inserted every person’s name into the song. Here are the lyrics…
When I see your face, there’s not a thing that I would change,
’cause you’re (insert every group member’s name here) amazing just the way you are.
And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for awhile,
‘Cause you’re (insert every group member’s name here) amazing just the way you are.
There was a lot of love shared yesterday. It was a pretty cool day.
Today is our last day of work. Fingers crossed that we all continue to stay safe and injury free.
