SSP 2017: Days 1 & 2

First of all, thank you so much for your support of this team. We’ve only just arrived and it has already been a great trip. We started off at our beloved church and headed to Redding for our first night. On the way there we stopped at the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield for a tour and some lunch. We have also bought “a few” jelly bellies. In Redding we also stopped at the Sundial Bridge and had a great dinner together at a Mexican restaurant. Our hosts at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Redding were very gracious and kind. The use of their cool basement was a nice respite from the 108* Redding heat.

The next morning we took a detour a little out of our way to visit the amazing Burney Falls. We also spent a few hours just lounging and swimming in Lake Britton. After eating lunch we got back on the road and made a beeline for Chiloquin. We arrived on site around 3:30 and were greeted by the enthusiastic staff. We got a tour of the gymnasium where we are sleeping and doing our program, as well as the Chiloquin Methodist Church where we will be eating all our meals. After dinner we were introduced to our work teams. We have a variety of projects between us including painting, building a deck and stairs, and roofing.

There is a lot of energy in this group and we are so excited to be here and ready to get to work! Today is our first day on the work sites. Keep us in your prayers 🙂
