2nd Hour: Prayer in Poems and Secular Songs

March 15 @ 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

This seminar explores prayer as portrayed in secular lyrics and poems. We question assumptions we may have about prayer and gain inspiration from secular songs and from poetry. Music by Nick Cage, U2, Leonard Cohen (not ‘Hallelujah’) and Mary Gauthier will be heard and discussed. Poems by Mary Oliver, George McDonald and Andrew Marvell (with music) will be read, and the lyrical Buddhist Metta Prayer and an Aztec Indian Prayer poem will be shared. Come ready to dig deeper and find connection.
