Second Hour: Poetry and Prose to Healing and Happiness with Claire Heinzelman

January 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a special second hour with Clair Heinzelman where we will learn how the creative process can be used as a tool for healing. Along with her book, Through a Glass Darkly – Lenses on Life with Alcohol Addiction, an Anthology in Poetry and Prose by Senior Women, Claire would like to share two other poems, Why Did You? ( reflection of the day July 7, 2016 when a Black man could stand no more police violence against his people and shot five Dallas policemen) and Dixieland Dream (a fanciful visit to a redwood grove where forest creatures make Dixieland jazz come to life.) The last poem was actually inspired by a performance of ‘Just a Closer Walk With Thee’ at LCC during Ben Law’s memorial service! Feel free to bring a poem or special piece of writing to share that has been instrumental in your own healing journey.

Claire’s bio:
Claire Heinzelman is a friend of LCC who lives in Berkeley, CA. She was a member of LCC for 33 years from 1980 to 2013. While she was a member of the church, Claire served in the choir and held various leadership positions from Social Justice Chair to Moderator. During her time away, she has been busy working on several important projects, such as publishing Through A Glass Darkly, an anthology of poetry and prose by senior women about their experience with alcoholism and its effect on their lives. Claire retired from sequential careers (reverse order) in music education, advocacy training for parents for children with special needs, corporate finance: in geothermal power and on Wall Street, and musical performance.
