SUMMARY:Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Worship is the heart of our community life. Sunday worship begins at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary and online via Zoom and Facebook. All ages are invited. LCC worship is a joyful celebration of God’s presence among us. We find inspiration\, renewal\, and refreshment through song and silence\, prayer\, and reflection. We seek to integrate the arts – music\, drama\, and visual – to enrich the worship experience. Worship continues in the many ways we seek\, serve\, and grow in the world. \n\nWe serve communion on the first Sunday of every month. All are welcome to the table!\nOn the second Sunday of each month\, Pastor Jeff has a conversation with someone from our community about their life and faith journey.

SUMMARY:Hildegard of Bingen – Getting to Know Her
DESCRIPTION:Hildegard of Bingen – Getting to Know Her\nA discussion led by Colleen Crangle\nFour Sundays over the summer: July 23\, July 30\, August 13\, August 27\n11a.m. – 12p.m. \nWhat: Read from the annotated Hildegard of Bingen: Essential Writings and Chants\, Annotated & Explained by Dr. Sheryl A. Kujawa-Holbrook (Translator).\nListen to Hildegard’s music.\nDiscuss her thoughts on the spiritual and natural world. \nWhere: Fireside Room\, Ladera Community Church \nWhen: Sundays\, July 23\, July 30\, August 13\, and August 27\, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. \nLed by: Colleen Crangle\, PhD (colleencrangle@gmail.com)\, with contributions by Rev. Jeff Munnis\, Kathan Vollrath\, MD\, Rev. Erin King\, and others. \nTo attend: Email amy@ladera.org or phone (650) 854-5481 if you are interested in joining the discussion. You can order a copy of the book at Amazon for $16.99 + tax. \nIn the Second Hour this past Sunday\, July 30\, 17 people gathered to continue our exploration of the 12th-century writer\, composer\, practitioner of the healing arts\, and mystic\, Hildegard of Bingen. Colleen Crangle shared extracts from the book that revealed more of Hildegard’s complex nature and led a discussion of key questions on the feminine Divine. \nIn the third session\, coming up this Sunday\, August 13\, Rev. Erin King will lead us in exploring viriditas—the “greening power of God”—and experiencing it firsthand by co-creating with the Divine our own mandalas\, as Hildegard did. Erin has been studying Hildegard and creating mandalas for over 30 years. With this simple spiritual tool\, Erin will guide us in tapping our own viriditas. We will then share conversation about Hildegard’s Illuminations of her mandalas and discover together their meaning for us today.\nIn preparation\, as you wish\, you can read the first 6 ½ pages of Part 6\, Noble Greenness (pages 79-85).  \nIn the fourth and final session\, August 27\, Kathan Vollrath\, MD will share insights into Hildegard’s writings on medicine and health. Colleen Crangle\, a research scientist in AI and health\, will discuss Hildegard’s writings on science. There will also be time to share our own experiences of visions with the Rev. Jeff Munnis present to lead the discussion.
