DESCRIPTION:From Feb 1 – Feb 24\, Ladera Community Church is partnering with the Menlo Atherton High School Service Club (The Care Bears) to collect backpacks for students experiencing poverty on the Mexicali border. In mid-March\, students will travel to Calexico and partner with a local food bank to distribute necessary food items and the collected backpacks.\n\nThe greatest need is for backpacks for high school students (20-30L size)\, but NEW backpacks of all sizes are accepted.\n\nBackpacks can be placed in the blue barrels outside the church office or if you would prefer\, you can write a check to LCC with “Backpacks” in the subject line and the Care Bears will purchase backpacks with our donations.\n\nAny questions\, please reach out to Sandie Timm at sandieptimm@gmail.com

Drop off CLEAN\, WHITE\, and firm block Styrofoam between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. We cannot accept (or recycle) dirty Styrofoam or Styrofoam with other materials attached to it\, like paper\, tape\, or aluminum. We cannot recycle bubble wrap\, foam wrapping sheets\, or foam that is squishy. \nWe will fill a rental moving truck on Thursday\, January 11\, 2024\, and take the Styrofoam to the Newby Island Resource Recovery Park in Milpitas. We welcome help loading the truck at 10 a.m. and donations to offset the cost of the truck.

SUMMARY:Styrofoam Recycling Drive
DESCRIPTION:Ladera Community Church is hosting another Styrofoam Recycling Drive from January 5 – 7! Drop off CLEAN\, WHITE\, and firm block Styrofoam between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. We cannot accept (or recycle) dirty Styrofoam or Styrofoam with other materials attached to it\, like paper\, tape\, or aluminum. We cannot recycle bubble wrap\, foam wrapping sheets\, or foam that is squishy. \nWe will fill a rental moving truck on Thursday\, January 11\, 2024\, and take the Styrofoam to the Newby Island Resource Recovery Park in Milpitas. We welcome help loading the truck at 10 a.m. and donations to offset the cost of the truck.

The cameras will be given a new and exciting life at Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto. Their Photography Program opens new worlds to students who have historically not had opportunities. Eastside students are typically the first in their families to go to college. SUMMARY:Climate Reality Presentation & Discussion with Gary H. White
DESCRIPTION:A slide presentation by Gary White will focus on the various aspects of climate change. It begins with a short review of the science behind the phenomenon followed by a detailed description of the numerous consequences of climate change. Lastly\, the talk will offer a framework for understanding the various solutions that need to be employed to address the climate crisis.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe presentation starts at 4:00 p.m.\, and the discussion starts at 5:00 p.m.\n\nBio:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGary H. White is a climate activist in the Bay Area who was trained by former U.S. Vice President\, Al Gore and his Climate Reality Project (CRP) in 2015. He has given over 300 climate presentations to thousands of people to date. Currently retired\, Mr. White spent nearly 30 years as a Human Resources Executive in the Silicon Valley. In addition to HR\, Mr. White was responsibility for Corporate Social Responsibility at his various workplaces. He holds a B.A. from Stony Brook University\, a Masters from UC Berkeley\, and an Executive Education Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from the Harvard Business School.

SUMMARY:California Coastal Cleanup Day with the BayLands FrontRunners
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to this year’s California Coastal Cleanup and Picnic! Each year volunteers gather to clean up our California beaches. This year\, BayLands FrontRunners and Ladera Community Church are again hosting a cleanup and potluck picnic at beautiful Pomponio State Beach. \nPlease join us! Here’s the link to the to save your spot. We’ve reserved Pomponio State Beach as a private cleanup site\, so it doesn’t appear on the public information page above\, but we’re official and all of our efforts will be reported and counted. In years past\, we’ve had between 20 and 30 volunteers\, so you’ll meet some great folks. It’s an easy morning of picking up trash\, followed by lots of fun displaying and weighing our haul\, followed by a delicious picnic. If you would like to enjoy just the picnic\, join us around 11 a.m. at the beach.
