DESCRIPTION:Modern square dancing is a recreation enjoyed by people of all ages in the United States and around the world.  We dance the Plus program utilizing All Position Dancing.  We often have an A2 or C1 star tip at the end of the evening.  All Plus dancers are welcome to join us for an evening of dancing.  Square dance attire is not needed.  Masks are optional.\n\nThe weekly schedule is:\n       Review: 6:00-6:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Class: 6:30-8:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Plus: 8:30-9:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Star tips: 9:00-9:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe cost is $10 per session.\nWe start a beginner’s class every fall in October.

SUMMARY:Second Hour: Mary’s Immigration Story and Other Personal Perspectives on Migration
DESCRIPTION:When: February 9\, 2015 at 10:45 am \nWhere: Fireside Room\, Ladera Community Church \nWhat: \nMary Antin’s 1899 story of her immigration journey was the first of its kind – an account by a child of migrating to the United States (Mary’s Immigration Story\, 2024). Written so long ago\, yet it is set in a broad historical context that is mirrored in today’s world. Her Jewish family was escaping tyranny and oppression. The family was torn apart\, with the father leaving three years earlier to prepare for their arrival. When Mary follows with her mother and siblings\, they are met with suspicion for the cholera that is raging in their homeland. A setback at the German border when they discover they don’t have the right documents leaves them “homeless\, houseless\, friendless in a strange place.” A harsh Atlantic crossing tests their endurance. Yet through it all\, Mary displays humor\, insight and a delight in all things new. \nCome hear sippets of Mary’s story that Colleen Crangle will share with us. Immigration is a complex issue in today’s reality of worldwide migration. Stories help us understand it. \nWhat is your family’s migration story? In mid-March\, students will travel to Calexico and partner with a local food bank to distribute necessary food items and the collected backpacks.\n\nThe greatest need is for backpacks for high school students (20-30L size)\, but NEW backpacks of all sizes are accepted.\n\nBackpacks can be placed in the blue barrels outside the church office or if you would prefer\, you can write a check to LCC with “Backpacks” in the subject line and the Care Bears will purchase backpacks with our donations.\n\nAny questions\, please reach out to Sandie Timm at sandieptimm@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Modern square dancing is a recreation enjoyed by people of all ages in the United States and around the world.  We dance the Plus program utilizing All Position Dancing.  We often have an A2 or C1 star tip at the end of the evening.  All Plus dancers are welcome to join us for an evening of dancing.  Square dance attire is not needed.  Masks are optional.\n\nThe weekly schedule is:\n       Review: 6:00-6:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Class: 6:30-8:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Plus: 8:30-9:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Star tips: 9:00-9:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe cost is $10 per session.\nWe start a beginner’s class every fall in October.
