DESCRIPTION:Speculative fiction is an umbrella term that includes science fiction\, fantasy\, alternate history\, and other genres that depart from realism.  Join us for the second of a two-part series in which we read excerpts from works of speculative fiction and talk about spiritual insights we can gain from them. In this session\, led by Martha Luemers\, we’ll read excerpts from the nineteenth century novella Flatland by Edward Abbott that imagine a two dimensional being’s encounters with one-dimensional and three-dimensional beings. \nYou don’t have to sign up in advance\, but if you let us know you’re coming by emailing Amy Boward at amy@ladera.com\, we’ll send you a digital copy of the excerpts.  Hard copies will also be available at the session.

SUMMARY:2025 Backpack Drive
DESCRIPTION:From Feb 1 – Feb 24\, Ladera Community Church is partnering with the Menlo Atherton High School Service Club (The Care Bears) to collect backpacks for students experiencing poverty on the Mexicali border. In mid-March\, students will travel to Calexico and partner with a local food bank to distribute necessary food items and the collected backpacks.\n\nThe greatest need is for backpacks for high school students (20-30L size)\, but NEW backpacks of all sizes are accepted.\n\nBackpacks can be placed in the blue barrels outside the church office or if you would prefer\, you can write a check to LCC with “Backpacks” in the subject line and the Care Bears will purchase backpacks with our donations.\n\nAny questions\, please reach out to Sandie Timm at sandieptimm@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Modern square dancing is a recreation enjoyed by people of all ages in the United States and around the world.  We dance the Plus program utilizing All Position Dancing.  We often have an A2 or C1 star tip at the end of the evening.  All Plus dancers are welcome to join us for an evening of dancing.  Square dance attire is not needed.  Masks are optional.\n\nThe weekly schedule is:\n       Review: 6:00-6:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Class: 6:30-8:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Plus: 8:30-9:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n       Star tips: 9:00-9:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe cost is $10 per session.\nWe start a beginner’s class every fall in October.

DESCRIPTION:LCC has a long-standing connection with LifeMoves\, especially through its monthly lunch service at the Redwood City Navigation Center. Each monthly visit is a chance to share food\, fellowship\, and compassion with those navigating challenging transitions. We’re assembling a team of 6-10 people to prepare and serve lunch at the new center\, which boasts a full commercial kitchen.
